1995 F250 PSD 180,000-ish miles. The hood cable is either frayed or kinked or just too tired to move. Lube won't help. Local dealer wants $90-ish, Tousley (or Bear in the Woods or whatever they're calling it these days) wants $60-ish. I can get a Dorman 912-042 for just north of $30. But we all know how Dorman products, well, let's just say they blow hot and cold. Anybody have any experience with this particular part?
What are you using for lube? If you have Harley dealer or motorcycle shop near you go in and ask for dry graphite cable lube. It is the best stuff I have found so far to lube cables with.
I've tried graphite, teflon, various bike cable/chain lubes etc. Only goes in so far. The ends seem fine. It feels like the restriction is somewhere in the middle, and the housing has some damage (looks like heat). I looked for kinks in the housing, no luck.
Update - cable from fordka arrived today. Biggest PITA was getting the firewall grommet to seat . Not bad otherwise. Latch lubed, minor tweak to the height bumpers, closes with a nice click, release feels like new! Thanks man - repped.
