Broken Hood Release Cable
My battery went flat and to compound my misery, when I went to open the hood, the cable was snapped. Does anyone have any idea how I can open the hood without using the release cable ? I'd rather not have to pay for it to be taken to the mechanic and then also pay to have the battery changed !

You didn't post the year, but see if you can cut the cable just forward of the parking brake bracket inside the cab. Then cut the outer covering about an inch or so without cutting the cable so you have access to the cable. Now just pull on the cable with a Vise-Grips pliers or the like.

When the hood release does not quite let go of the hood, I have found it helpful to have someone press down on the forward edge of the hood while you pull the release. Pressing
down on the hood frees the catch from any friction with the latch mechanism. I know this does not help a broken cable, but knowledge is power, so they say.
