Starter Post Replacement

I have two working starters but both have stripped posts. I bought the repair kit from Mac's (came in a 1966 Fomoco box). Anyway it looks like I have to remove the twp starter windings to make the post switch. My first question, is that true, and if it is, how do you get those large set screws with the square insert out?

Can't say if you need to remove the poles, but here's the factory set-up for getting those screws out. You can rig something similar if you have a stout drill press. I'd be tempted to take it to a shop with the right tools.

It's been a whole since I replaced the stud in one ofy staters but I don't remember having to take the out. Like Ross said, it probably would be easier to have a shop do it. My son just had his starter completely rebuilt for $45, including having it upgraded to 12 volt. Parts alone were going to be about $25+.
