What's the point of keeping the factory muffler? It restricts all the sound

3.5" straight pipe here. No complaints. Do a lot of towing too.

It's just the performance aspect of a full 4" straight that i was after. Less restriction is more responsiveness and power. Definitely get rid of the stock catalytic converter, if it can be done legally (Yay canada).

As long as you put on a full system and not just cut the stock off under the cab or something, it's not incredibly loud at all. Windows up, almost not even noticeable

on my 04 the stock turbo down pipe had a resonator in t that deleted most of the turbo whistle. I removed that and liked the sound much better, but then replaced the whole system with the magna flow, with the dual tail pipe muffler( mine is a DRW) totally love the sound, and I tow abunch, the magnaflow system dropped the EGT by 250 ish degrees. plenty of sound inside and out (I also drive a 08 mustang gt with the magnaflow system on it and love it !!) now there is a nice deep rumble, and a bunch of turbo whistle

Anyway to the OP, it's your call. If you plan on some mods and a tune later on, then the 4" is probably the best way to go. If you will remain stock then I'd keep the factory exhaust and muffler (or swap it out for something that gives you a better sound). The factory muffler is not restrictive. A cat delete, well most of us do...
