I want add alittle pep to my 2000 F-350 DRW 7.3 PSD. I want to install a 4" exhaust, guages, and a Superchips tuner. Today I looked and found that my current exhaust has a 3 1/2 downpipe, 4" pipe to muffler, and 3 1/2 out. Should I have any worrys about EGTs with leaving the downpipe at 3 1/2 and losing the muffler and running straight 4" exhaust from the downpipe back.
Probably not. No matter what size your exhaust pipe is you're limited to the 3 1/2 inch outlet on the turbo. Most folks go 4" all the way, but if you're pinching pennies and can save money with the smaller downpipe, go for it.
I agree with that. And I know a couple of people who are in to the imports and they SWEAR that a bigger down pipe is the most important peice of an after market exaust.
This is going to be my last post in this discussion. No matter what you're trying to flow, be it electricity, water, or exhaust you're going to be limited to whatever the smallest outlet in the system is. Just for the hell of it get a 3/4 inch water hose and put a 1/2 inch fitting at the very start of it. Get a stop watch and time how long it takes this setup to fill up a 5 gallon jug. Then do the same thing running 3/4 inch all of the way. The difference in time will open lots's of eyes.
Well I got off my wallet and decided to get a 4" turbo back exhaust, an Auto-Meter triple Pillar ( Boost/EGT/Trans Temp ), AFE Intake system, and a Superchips Micro tuner. Also Found a shop that will install all for $175. Can't wait to hook to my 12K FW trailer and head for Western MD and see what she can do in some good pulls. My only worry is that I'll be so impressed that I'll want to park the Sable and drive her everyday. Did I mention that Diesel is 4.29 a gallon in Southern MD.
