I put a new support on the frame which cradles the transmission on the crossmember. This may sound obvious but I can't see anywhere that actually secures the transmission. So as I look at it - only the two front engine mounts hold the entire engine transmission set up down. Am I missing something? I guess I can see that it wouldn't be a good idea to tie down all four corners. That would seem like a torque problem but it seems like there ought to be a hold down or something over the transmission.
I am sure this is obvious to anyone who has done it but this is a first for me.
That's all there is/was. The two front engine mounts at the base of the water pumps, then the mount of the transmission on that crossmember. So three mounting points for the engine and transmission combo. Do you still have the flathead and original transmission? And do you actually have the transmission bolted to the crossmember?
Thanks Doc - I have the original engine and transmission. The engine is rebuilt and honestly it has been so long since I took it all out I can't remember how the transmission end goes. For now it is just resting in the cradle on the cross member. It seems like there should be something to hold it down
Excellent - this is what I was looking for - I have the trans bolted into the cradle [part #6068] but that part is not bolted to the frame as shown in the diagram. That solves my problem - thank you!
