300 I6 Engine mounts

I am trying to install new front motor mounts on my 72 f100 with a 300I six in it and can't seem to get the engine to line up with them. It seems to be sitting about 1/4 of a inch maybe a little less to far foward of where it needs to be. The person from lmc told me to adjust the rear engine mount, I think they're talking about the tranny mount but would like to double check to be sure.

What front mounts, your truck should have side mounts.

The do they just labeled them as being the front mounts the numbers are 2331 and 2332 The holes would line it if the engine would sit another 1/4 back towards the firewall. As it is I am going to have to drop the transmission anyhow being as the throw out bearing seized up when the left mount blew apart = /.

What engine did the truck have originally?

There's no way a rear engine (transmission) mount (rubber insulator) can be adjusted as it's bolted to the transmissions extension housing, then to the rear engine mount bracket (some ppl call this a crossmember) that bolts to the frame rails.

If you move the rear engine mount bracket backwards, how will you bolt the insulator to these parts without moving the engine/transmission backwards? Then what happens to the driveshaft?

The clucks at LMC are no better at giving advice than the clucks that work in chain autoparts stores. These are minimum wage earners with next to no Ford experience, no Ford shop manuals or parts catalogs, no nothing.

LMC also sells GM parts, so how much Ford related info do they know?

You want advice, FTE is your best bet.

Its the stock engine everything is there and intact. I've only had the truck about a week and the left mount popped so the engine shot forward.

If the engine is the original and the new replacement rubber insulators don't line up, there's only one reason why.

You bought rubber insulators that will not fit. They're 1980 replacements or (less likely) for an Econoline.
.
Originally 1965/79 F100/350 240/300 2WD was the same. Ford replaced these insulators in 1980 with different parts, and when they did that, the new insulators required different engine supports.

I'll betcha you bought these new style insulators which WILL NOT WORK with the supports yoiu have now. The supports are steel, bolt to the engine crossmember.

I'll see if anyone has the original insulators. I can't do this right now, I have to run a few errands, be back in a coupla hours.

EDIT: I did a qwik search, found dozens of them. These insulators are right and left specific. I'll post the sources when I get back home.

Well the original mounts were pretty shot from the gate but these new ones bolt right up to the block, the engine rest just a little to far forward to allow the bolt to drop into the support towers. I wouldn't be surprised if the catalog I ordered from sent me the wrong parts. The parts I have received from them so far haven't left me very impressed.
I'm gonna check the tranny mount tomorrow to see if its tweaked at all. I broke a bunch of fuel lines, some of the linkage on the carb, the clutch assembly came apart I don't think anything broke = / and the engine was kicked at a angle when I popped the hood so being as it drilled a hole threw my radiator turning it to shrapnel, I am gonna have someone check it all out to make sure I am not over looking something.

The new style insulators (if that's what you bought) bolt to the block, but will not bolt to the engine supports of any 1965/79 F100/350 w/a 240/300 I-6.

When Ford changed the insulators, they also changed the engine supports.

1979: 4WD only / 1965/78 2WD & 4WD.

Sanderson will be cheaper than Green, but only has the left.

No one else in the 11 western states had any.

Where are you in CA? You might be able to get them from a Santa Monica autoparts store that is the best around for older vehicles.

I am in Sacramento so Santa Monica is a a bit far lol. I should've known it was to easy when I only paid $30 for a pair after shipping lol. Considering these are painted to match the engine and everything else I believe them to be the originals though so at least they should last awhile even if it cost a arm and a leg.

Did you check with Sacramento Vintage Ford? I don't know if they have them...or not, but call 'em and ask.

And...Santa Monica is closer than Cincinnati OH...and Glendale AZ
