I'm swapping a 460 into a 1978 4x4 F150. Everything is going well so far, but the mount isn't setting totally flush with the perch on the driver's side. The picture makes the mount look angled, but it is just how the engine is setting. It would be perfect if the engine were rotated clockwise just a hair, but not sure how to do that. Wrestling with it has been unsuccessful so far.
The passenger side perch/mount is perfect.
I also bolted up the headers just to check out the fit, and it looks like it will be tight with the steering shaft, but that extra eighth of an inch of engine drop if the mount would sit flat would make the difference.
Any thoughts?
Should I put a big washer and nut on the bolt on the underside of the engine perch and just wrench it down?
Maybe put a shim on the passenger side motor mount to even it out?
Looks like your engine mount needs to be turned clockwise. However considering 460 engine mount bolts are not symmetrical, your mount appears to be cast wrong. I have the exact same mounts and mine are exactly parallel on both sides.
Ah. Well, I just got back from trying to manipulate it a bit more, and I think you're right. Taking the bolts out of the mount and lowering the engine has it sitting perfectly flush, but the holes no longer line up. I guess a replacement is in order.
