Recommend a transmission fluid

Need to change the fluid in my 2003 7.3 and would like to switch it to a synthetic. I live in Alaska so it sees a lot of cold weather operation.

Truck has 130k miles on it.

Synthetic is expensive so I'm looking for a good value. I should be fine with a dextron/mercon III equivalent fluid, correct?

These trucks require Mercon V after a TSB several years ago. Mobil 1 ATF is rated as Mercon V as well as several others. I wouldn't run anything else. I need to flush mine as well. Check the Tech folder sticky up top and there should be links on how to do this. Mark K is the resident expert and explains in great detail how to properly flush.

I recommend the Mobil 1 ATF, as well. It has served me well over the years. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Schaeffers synthetic is one of the best. It's not cheap, but Brian at BTS was involved in the development and he builds a hell of a transmission. If it is good enough for him...
