DUI Questions

Looking at a DUI distributor for my build.

1. At which point during the ordering process would I provide my engine details for their custom tune that they offer? I'd prefer to order through Summit as I can simply throw it in my basket with everything else and buy everything at once, but can order directly if need be.

2. Are their $90 plug wires worth it? They're 10mm so they must flow a healthy amount of power but would you guys say it's worth the price? 8mm Accel wires are $55. Just wondering if I should bother with the DUI wires.

Are going with the Duraspark version? Summit says "This part is normally shipped directly from the manufacturer / Supplier." so I would imagine they pass on what info you give them to DUI (cam duration & lift, carburetor size, compression ratio, vehicle weight and octane of fuel) .. The accel or Taylor Thundervolt 8.2mm ($56)would be plenty of wire depending on the coil you choose .. The tuning service is a great value when you consider how much it costs to send out a distributor to have it recurved these days

im getting the all in one, and im going to have my machine shop call and order it once the engine is reaady for break in. that sounds the best idea to me, get everything right and then do it.

as far as the wires, they are a hei(chevy) size. so depending on where you live( ilive in nascar and dragstrip central) i can go grab 10mm custom wire kits for 40$ off a shelf in a performance shop around me

No, the expensive one with the coil on top.

But would they be cut to size? I really like a clean looking engine bay.

yes, the ones im looking at, come with caps and like 36" wires or some ridiculous length. or you can custom order them. from what ive read, the 904 dui are junk ones and dont like to come off, resulting in a tear or broken caps.

@ $450 + all the shxt you need to support the added spark The difference from the duraspark would sure buy some nice head work .. That would be my choice .. What RPM you plan on running this motor ? A CNC apprentice must be paying pretty good these days

the dui im getting id 365, and im getting rid of my feedback setup in the process, plus im doing a restoration and a high compression engine with the works, i dont need high rpms, nor should i see them with 5 speed swap, but im the guy that over does stuff aha.

id need a new dizzy, coil, and ignition module along with wires, and a recurve. a hundred ish more and a single wire and ill get this bad boy.

also if your okay with spending 90$ on a set of wires, get some that have 30-40 ohms. the dui have 300-350, thats a big difference for the same price, granted i dont think i could notice a difference in driveability, but aye lower resistance is always better at 50k volts.

I'm looking at the $350 one, not the $450 option. I'll keep the engine under 5000. It probably won't ever see any more than 3500. I know that I in no way actually need the DUI but I have money burning a hole in my pocket so... I want one. I'm also already getting a 240 head refurbished... haha.

Do you know of any plug wires that have resistance that low? My one condition is that I want them in black. No exceptions.

I run one of their Duraspark distributors and it is very nice. An HEI based ignition won't give you any performance advantage over DSII. One wire hook up is nice, I suppose, but it's also about twice as big as a DS Distributor (and thrice points).

I just bought some 180° terminals and boots then cut/crimped a set of wires to length. Ninety bucks for plug wires is a waste of money. Summit probably sells a build your own set for $30.

Alright, guys. I got a set of 8.2mm Taylor wires with 50ohm/foot resistance. I think that's good enough.

How much?
And yeah I'm doing it for the simplicity, plus my engine build and restoration style. I refuse to pay that much for something I can get so much cheaper and out ten minutes of work into.
