hey guys i have a 94 f250 with a 460 in it. it is not the original motor. previous owner said it had 20k on it. my problem is i pulled the wires to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets and got the plug wires mixed up and couldnt remember how they were so i called my local auto zone and they sent me the firing order 1,5,4,2,6,3,7,8 so i put the plug wires in there proper place go to crank the truck and nothing. it just turns over and never fires. i did confirm its getting fuel also the truck has a new coil, rotor button, cap, wires, plugs. the truck was running like a top an hour before and now it wont start. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
By the way the front plug on the passenger side is #1 plug and from there it goes 1,2,3,4 on the passenger side.
The front plug on the drivers side in #5 and it numbers to the rear, 5, 6, 7 & 8.
The previous owner could have dropped the distributor anywhere and lined up the plug wires that way. Not saying for sure that's what's going on here, but it's interesting you'd say "don't think it was that way before." That is possible, and you'd know better than anyone.
Find TDC on the #1 cylinder and see where the rotor points relative to #1 on the distributor cap. Then you'll know for certain, and can eliminate this as a source of the trouble.
