I have a 2000 E150 with 6 cyl engine. I've owned the van almost 6 years and have put 25k miles on it during that time with a total of 140k miles on the clock. I've owned vans for the last 40 years and this one has been one of the best I've owned.
Since I use this van for my business and I work at a job that requires me being on time 100% of every time I travel, should I be concerned the fuel pump in the van is original? I don't know why I have concern about the fuel pump and not other critical parts.
I guess I am asking if you think I'm "driving on borrowed time", or if my concerns are unwarranted. With something like a fuel pump, I'm sure it's had to estimate average life, but what say you? Thanks for all replies.
Joe
Keep the fuel filter changed on a regular basis , and it will last a Long time . A Good shop can do an amp draw test and a labscope graphing to tell you the " health" of your pump . Amazing what a good scope , in the proper hands, can tell you about an electric component !
My '00 with 275K on the clock still runs great, original fuel pump! Along with a clean filter and known good gas grade keeping the tank at least 1/4 full is your best insurance to a long-lived pump.
If you're concerned do or have done a pressure test at the fuel rail with the proper gauge.
IF replacement is in order use a good brand---I just happen to have a new, never used one laying around. Its Airtex brand which is OEM supplier. (There are two versions one with two, one with three hose connections on top of the mounting plate.)
Anyway I'd think you're okay for now--sad thing is even brand new parts can fail unexpectedly.
Embarrassed, but where's the fuel filter on mine? 96 e350...
On the inside of the frame rail under the driver's seat. Wear safety glasses while taking the old one loose. Fuel's gonna spray if there's still pressure in the system.
