fuel pump decisions

'91 ford aerostar has bad fuel pump, i pulled the fuel line from the filter and had the van cranked over, no fuel flow was observed. however its not my van its my fathers, and he says hes not going to pay 150$ for the parts to replace the fuel pump. heres my question is it possiable to put an external pump to the frame and how much would it rob power.

thanx in advance

Even the factory pumps from the trucks that were on the frame used a booster pump in the tank to feed fuel to them. These pumps are designed to push fuel, not pull.
The best is to drop the tank and put a new pump in it. They are about the same price. Usually around $75. at AutoZone. $150 sounds a bit steep for a stock pump.
