Have found two different configurations using the smog/air pump on pre EFI.
1. Manifold rail with air injector fittings , 1/2" x 20 tapped holes in head
discharge of smog pump is connected to manifold through a check
valve. Hole in EGR adapter plate used for configuration #2 is plugged.
2. All six air injection holes in head are plugged with allen head screws.
discharge from smog pump is connected to side of EGR adpater plate
through a check valve.
Both configuration incorporate the curved heat tube from the exhuast manifold to ERG adapter plate
Then there must be a third...the AIR pump on my 86 injects the air through a one inch pipe with a check valve into the exhaust just ahead of the first cat. Another pipe with check valve goes into the EGR adapter plate. ~Bill

The F150 that has #1 configuration is a Dec 1981 build date sticker in the door.
The F150 that has the #2 smog pump configuration is a later year build date , pre EFI with carburetor, with the exhaust missing from the stock cast exhaust manifold to the front of a round muffler.
Here is a picture of a 300 carbed emissions motor if someone needs it for reference .. Hard to find one this complete
Hi all –new here – just “picked-up” a ’74 F100 with a 240 I6. It runs but not great – seems tohave either ignition and/or carb issues. The 1-bbl carb looks like (very similar) to the onepictured. My question is – what is the small solenoid? on the back, passenger side of the carb. It has a rubber boot, and a wire. The (black) wire on mine is just cut. There is a rod going through it,and is seems it should contact a rod/lever back on the carb. Thanks for any input!

Reason: spacing

Take a picture and post it so there is no misunderstanding
The solenoid is used on the trucks even without ac. Set the idle speed with the solenoid energized, when you shut off the engine the solenoid de-energizes letting the throttle close completely preventing "run-on". ~Bill
