Mirror retrofit

'Just Sayin', I love my Ex and want to upgrade a few things that have come out recently that would make it that much better. I an interested in the power folding mirrors on the new trucks and the shape of the doors looks to be the same. Could I swap out the OEM mirrors with newer power folding mirrors? I know there would be some electrical mods needed. Has anyone done it? Are there any kits available?

Several people, including myself have done it. I think I have $750 in mine (which is CHEAP!) including used mirrors, switches, building harness and me doing the work. Plan on it costing $1000 if you do all the work, I got lucky finding the mirrors cheap.

No kits available....I made one complete kit for these older trucks...put it on ebay... and a guy with a 2012 truck bought it...go figure

Here's mine in action....

Sweet control's money-pit. I think my 2008 oem mirrors were just under $1000.00 A parts runner for ford would check the system for dealers that wanted to clearance the mirrors. If you know an auto repair guy, he might get the discount.

Thank you

thanks for the words of encouragement. I would like to know if there are any videos or step by step guides anyone has put together to swap out the mirrors and the electronics. I am having trouble (being new) getting to the pictures on curtis 05's swap.

My mechanic and I recently put the 08+ style tow mirror on the 02 X. On a budget skipped the power fold and telescope feature.
Had to add a running light wire. Some of the wires were the same color easy wiring and some were different. Did a lot of research and couldn't find any exact wiring diagrams.

The big 08 mirrors look great on the excursions

Tell me the colors of your wires on your old mirrors, and new mirrors...I might be able to help.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to add several wires to make everything work. I dont think the 2000's came with turn signals/side markers or heat. I could be wrong.

Thanks, I haven't purchased new mirrors yet. I was still in the research phase before unloading some cash. Do you have any diagrams that I could see?

I don't have any diagrams...just a bunch of hand written notes and a 2012 mirror connector pinout from when I did mine. Basically, I had to find out what each of my old mirror wires were for....then build a harness to add 4 wires to each door for power fold/telescope.
