this is rare..my truck no go this morning ..nothing..check batteries and they are down at 10.35 volts..put a charger on it and charger fried itself after a while..got another 1 on it and voltage wont come up over 10.4..im thinking my glow plug relay is stuck??..btw i got a remote starter on it..i use it all the time to start my psd cause the head lights WONT come on making starting much better..reason im saying this is the fuse holder was melted under the dash when i went looking for a short..
Try disconnecting the gpr from the battery and then charge and try to start. Check battery voltage too. Sounds like you might just need new batteries. They should be at least 12.4 volts @ no load.
yes im from canada..batteries were fine yesterday..i just checked em..truck was sitting all winter while i was away..but ive been driving everyday for 2 weeks now..ill try and disconnect the battry side of GPR..i think one of the little wires on it is grounded like in the other post i included..thanks for your reply..warm enuff to start w/out GPR so...
@cowmilker08 i undid battry side of GPR and checked the voltage..was still down at 10.7..neighbor come by and jumped me and shes chargin at 13.8..will let run for an hour and put charger back on for the night..hopefully ill be going fishing tommorow morning..unlike this morning
definitely the GPR.. must have a dead short inside gpr..sounded like i not only had new batts but a new starter..question is now which GPR should i replace it with?
Western Plow 56131K or Stancor / White-Rodgers 586-902.
Do the DRLs come on with the key in RUN and the parking brake applied? If not, that would be one way to start the engine without the load of the DRLs (and good practice anyway).
yes if parking brake is on head lights will stay off..i just try not to use the parking brake to avoid them sticking cause the truck sits for 6 months a year now and i am in the lake launching my boat 2-3 times a week fishing..i was in the lake this morning ..btw i have put about $2000 in to this truck since the warranty come off in 02..i love it!..still runs better then new..getting rusty though..im keeping her till i die!
thats true i know that but if you read "cause the truck sits for 6 months a year now" it might have made more sence to you.. mine was in the salt air of mexico on a beach for 10 years prior to 2009 ..now it just sits up here in the damp wet freezing cold all winter not running..i even leave the transfer case in 4-low so i can use 4x4 when i get home..(the linkage wont seize up as bad) ..1st year it sat here i could not engage transfer case for a week because it was all rusted up..was hard on the shoulder to get it to move..thanks for the advice but starting to use the e-brake now would mean a problem

I did read that. The obvious answer is - don't let it sit for six months a year. Even if you don't have a use for it, go out and pump the brakes once a month or so (to keep the piston seals in the master cylinder fresh) and release and re-apply the parking brake. At least once or twice in that six month period, start it up and move it around, even if just shortly. Doing absolutely nothing to a seasonal-use vehicle during the off-season is one of the worst things for it.
That said, I have left my Saturn for several months unattended. Parking brake still releases and re-applies just fine.
'Course, for your purposes, if the only intent is to turn off the DRLs, you only need to push the parking brake pedal one click, just enough to trip the switch on the pedal.
