Stupid question possible project

Ok my 7.3 ex is rusty. Low miles..78xxx..I bought the por15. Mechanic says sell it. How crazy would it be to buy a clean gas ex. Pull the body. Sand blast and por the diesel frame. Roll the diesel frame and motor under the better body? I know it's not a weekend thing. I know there would be electronics. Anyone? I could part out whats left over?

I am not a fan of por-15. Tried it two years ago on my hitch....followed directions EXACTLY and took my time to do it right (basically a whole weekend) and the rust was showing through four months later.

Interesting yours rusted through. I helped a friend of mine POR-15 a Chevelle frame over 20 years ago.
It looks the same today as when we finished. Wonder if their chemical makeup has changed?

Did you topcoat the POR-15?

Yeah, 78k on a 7.3 is a leisurely stroll around the block, it's a million mile motor.

Here is a better answer...move.

78,000 miles is nothing. I sold mine with 306,000 miles on It all original, last time I bumped into the new owner it was at 325,000 miles still going strong!

I would buy a gas excursion with a blown motor and swap your 7.3 and trans in.

The low miles made me buy it. We really like it. Mechanic says it looks like a 30yr old truck from the underside. The write ups on the diesel swaps looked involved. So I was thinking body swap. I'd like to have this truck ten years.

I will admit, I didn't look under mine when I bought it but being a California native rust didn't even occur to me.

Just checking if anyone has any suggestions on this. My mechanic said it would take forever to do it. But i guess I'm thinking its a body swap. I know the 7.3 swap to a gaser is a huge project. Maybe my plan is more similar than i think. Anyone?

I think it's a brilliant way to think outside of the box. Let us know what happens!

Will you do the work? Or have it done? If you have the time and space for 2 Ex's, go for it; no lack of ideas and advice from FTE.

Well being a body swap takes care of only half the rust, you might have to do a motor/trans swap. The rest frame, springs, and all of that are all rust too I'm sure.

I would just do the motor swap and be done.
