if something has replaced the CD i am not aware of it. ....
Yes about 15 years ago a thing called the mp3 did.
You take the computer you used to post this and use it to convert every CD you ever owned into an mp3 and store them in your player, phone or memory stick by the thousand that you then have with you at all times for your enjoyment in whatever playback device happens to be closest to your person.
But even the mp3 is falling by the wayside t o cloud based storage and net based music streaming services.
Plus bluetooth linking directly to my phone (or anyone else's in the car) to play music off it. At this rate in the next few years I'm hoping for Google maps on the dashboard that live updates either over WiFi or via bluetooth through a cellphone instead of buying CDs to update OEM navigation software.
(Edit: I don't know why the guy felt the need to tear the entire dash of during his install. I dropped the glove box, shoved my hand back there and stuck the plug in, wired up power and ground, and was done)

fair enough.
i have none of those things, nor do i want them.
i would love a "door holder opener" that can actually hold the door open in something more than the slightest breeze or the slightest incline.
and while we are making one that works, let's make ones that have useful angles. i'm built like a beanpole and even I can't get out of the truck with the door on the first worthless notch.
They added a remote input jack to my truck's radio, too.
I use the MP3 player in the GPS, and feed it right into the FM portion of the radio.
If nothing's plugged in, the radio acts absolutely stock. When something gets plugged into that jack, the input takes the place of FM. I still have AM and CD available.
Factory Radio turned it around in only a couple of days. Easy to work with. Would have them do another if it became necessary.
Just to continue on, I asked Mark K, the tranny guy, why Ford arranged the shifting pattern on the 5r110, as P,R,N,D,3,2,1. Why not have 4th instead of 3rd, knowing that sometimes you like to manually downshift, and 3rd isn't a good option at 65.
He indicated it was for ease of starting, not slowing, and also not his idea.
I'm not sure about most, but starting in 3rd isn't much help for us guys on the dry side.
How many of you northerners use 3rd for starting in the winter? Maybe more then I realized.
Ok, so my 2010 F150 had 6 cup holders, and room for 5 passengers.
My 2014 F250 has 4 cup holders if the consoles are folded down allowing for only 4 passengers. With 6 passengers requiring both center consoles folded out of the way;
