I'd ask somebody over in the 385 Series Forum. They know more than I do and they can tell you for sure, but the last time I looked I thought I had read that.
You can use it with a carb. the worst thing you'd have to do is put in a plug or two for a knock sensor.

I wouldn't bore it more than it needs to clean up. The more you bore the less material there is to use in a later rebuild, and I doubt you'd get more than 5HP more by the extra displacement anyways. I'd ask your machine shop, they'll probably recommend .030.
hey, i'm back with another question. i found a dana 60 front end but its out of a deisel and i know it's different but how different? what would i have to change (if anything) and is it worth $350? or should i wait for a good deal on one out of a srw? thanks, Austynn
my rear is 4 10 but i'm not sure about the front end. if it's not, its not a big deal cause i could buy different gears but i just want to know about the axle itself.
also, i have the ford books that the dealeships mechanics shop worked with that tell EVERYTHING about the truck and it has a section that deciphers everything that is on the door sticker. anyways, under the axle section, there is the number 35. in the book under the number 35 it shows:
It should be a Sterling 10.25. I think the Dana 70s were only on F-350s. If you look on the housing, it will have 60 or 70 stamped if it is a dana.
btw, a diesel Dana 60 will work, but the ratio will probably 3.54. It is easier to get 4.11 if that is what is in the rear. BTW, don't get the DRW Dana 60. You'll have to get new hubs which cost about $300 a side or you have to machine them to fit the SRW.
I was going to post a pic of my sterling, but I looked and the pic was cutoff not showing it
He was asking if his rear was a Dana 70, and if a diesel Dana 60 would fit in the front.
and I said a diesel 60 would probably have 3.54 gears. He would probably want to find a SRW f-350, being that it already has the right hubs on the front..
