I have not looked into MotorHaven body panels, I am not sure. I have heard nothing but good about the Rhino coat systems. I plan to have both of my trucks beds done in Rhino coat, I heard it's not cheap though!
well we dragged it home and it sits alot higher than it looked in the tiki weeds on the sticker under the hood it says something about heavy duty so i think its on of those. the guy i bought it off of said that there was a fire under the hood so we (me and my dad) investigated that and what happened is the battery tray is made out of plastic and i guess it couldnt handle the weight of the battery and it tore so the positive fell and landed on the fender and shorted a ground and we hooked up a new ground. another thing that was wrong is the fuel lines are rotted so we put a hose from a gas tank to the engine, threw in a new battery, turned the key and it started right up after 5+ years of sitting next to a garage. we ordered all new body parts and went to the parts store after work today for some engine parts . i'll keep you guys posted on progress.
its got the big ol 460 its a 4 speed manual . what tranny is that and also what transfer case is it..? will any f350 dana 60 frontend fit with a little welding? what year(s) was the bolt on swap again? thanks
You either have the NP435 4 speed or the BW T-18...this is if you have granny low first gear. Or you have the 4 speed overdrive (junk) I am not sure what model it is though. The NP435 and T-18s are bulletproof and will hold all the horsepower and torque that 460 could ever make. I have heard the Dana 60 from 1980-96 F350s will bolt without welding. Don't quote me on that one though! Congrats on the new Beast, and have fun!
I gutted every emissions component from my 84. Get yourself a Haynes or a Chiltons manual, they have vacuum diagrams that will help you locate the smog lines. I am not familiar with the vacuum diagram of a 460. You can remove the compressor, charcoal canisters, cataststrophic converter, the shop manual should help you with the rest. Good luck!
i want to do the axle swap to the dana 60 and i was wondering what (other than ford) axles i could use if i cant find a 85-92 f350 axle. i would like to know what years and applications i coul use and also how much work. another thing is if i have a heavy duty f250 is the rear axle a dana 70 or a dana 70 heavy duty ? thanks.
here is a tip if anyone has messed with the suspension on the truck lift wise dont bother messing with it...on my 82 f-150 the guy i bought it from put a 1/2 rancho and 1/2 homemade suspension lift under it (that was mostly welded to things that shouldnt have been welded) i bought a 6" superlift and it took me a month to clean the truck up to put the new lift on (month to clean the truck up and 2 days to put the lift on) if you aer wanting to go suspension lift i recomend superlift 6" anything bigger i agree with wildjon300ci to do a straight axle swap which isnt all that had but its up to you.....good luck
ok thanks for the info but if it is a heavy duty will and 6" f250/f350 lift fit and if i do go that approach what size tires would i be able to clear keeping in mind that it already sits high (i think) ???
Well lets see... a stock 4x4 F250 will fit a 33x12.50, it sounds like you MIGHT clear a 35 in your case. With 4 inches you could probably clear a set of 38s, with 6 inches you would probably clear a set of 40s...maybe 42s with minor fender trimming.
