I have a 1972 F250 4x4 (blue), but the engine was swapped in the late 1990's. The dealer has no record now of what engine it is. I see that the heads are C6AER and I was told it was a 390. My problem is that some of the the parts I see in catalogs do not match a 390 from a truck. The oil pan is a flat connection to the block and pictures show a semi-circle at the ends. Also, the oil dipstick tube goes into the side of the oil pan on the drivers side, not into the block as the truck 390's I see in parts catalogs. I have a second 1972 F250 4x4 (brown/white) and the oil pan is a flat connection to the block, the oil dipstick goes into the block, and the heads are C8AE-H. I was told this engine is a 390 also, but could be a 360. On the blue F250 4x4, the oil dipstick tube to oil pan connect is leaking oil, so I need to ID that engine to know what I look up in the parts catalog. Please help! Thank you.
P.S. I took pictures of the engine from the top and the dipstick tube to oil pan connection.

Reason: added P.S.
I'm not understanding what you're asking. It sounds like you have two FE's (which all look the same on the outside). Sounds like one has a pan dip stick and the other has a block dipstick.
4WD pan has the dipstick. 2WD pan has a block dipstick.
Correct, I have 2 1972 F250 4x4's. The engine has been swapped on both. I am trying to ID what engine they are since they are not stock and don't match images in the part catalog for LMC Truck. The current need is for fixing the oil leak where the dipstick tube connects to the oil pan. This is the engine with the C6AER heads. What engine do I order the parts for? Replace the dipstick tube, or is it part of the oil pan?

Thank you! What I understand from this is that regardless if the engine is a 390, since it has the 4WD oil pan that would be for a stock 360, these parts will still work.
The other engine with the 2WD oil pan could be a 360 or 390.
That's the rear sump 6qt. pan you have and a common leak problem. when some guys add header sometime the dip stick tube upper mounting bolt tag won't line back up to hold it from just flopping around and getting looser in the pan until it starts leaking. I've seen where some guys have brazed a screw in type fitting for a aftermarket dip stick & tube.. Check summit or Jegs.com I know theirs a few more co's that make dip-sticks but can't remember right now.
Interesting, I do have headers on this engine. There is already a blob of sealer on the tube connection to the oil pan, but the tube is not flopping around. Thanks for the info.
