helicoil time

Hey everyone,
Would someone tell me what size drill bit for helicoil for my injector hold down bolt. snapped head off trying to tighten. started drilling out bolt when I broke the tip of the drill bit inside. ordered KnKut drill bit (great drill bit!) off the internet to drill out tip of broken drill bit. Got that done. Inserted no.3 EZ out, snapped that off flush. So now I need to drill everything out for heilcoil. But what size drill bit? anyone been through this before? It's not very fun.

The heli-coil kit should be an 8mm. The drill bit will be with the kit you get.

Been there, unfortunately, and you're right, it's not fun. Here's the whole saga:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...t-snapped.html

I wound up using a threaded insert after the helicoil didn't hold. I still have lots of stuff left over (helicoils, inserts, drills, etc.). PM me with your shipping info and you're welcome to it.

Chris

8mm?, that's the size of the head of the bolt. That much I know. I was just looking on line, I need to measure the dia. of the threads, and then the pitch of the thread.

Why are these breaking off? Reading Chris' thread made my stomach hurt. When I replace my injectors, should I just replace all the bolts with new?

120 inch pounds is the spec, and I do 130. One time I checked the torque after I used the ol' elbometer... I blew way past the spec. I can even over-tighten the injector bolts with a stubby-handled socket drive. That bolt is an engine part, but it's still only a 5.25mm-diameter piece of metal (plus thread is 5.9mm).
