My 88 in the sig is factory equipped with cruise control. I've never tried to use it until a couple of days ago. I was going down the highway and i pressed on, set accel, and I let off the throttle. Nothing happened. It just kept losing speed. Am I doing it right or does my cruise not work?
There is no cruise light on these years of trucks.
2x on vacuum lines and throttle cable from the servo, check them 1st. After that, start checking the brake switch and/or clutch switch(if manual tranny).
There are several good threads on the cruise control diagnostics, just search for them.
Does your speedometer work? If the speedometer gear / speed sensor isn't working, then the cruise won't work. As others have mentioned, open up your cruise servo and check out the cable inside (the servo is the round thing on the driver side fender, just forward of the brake master cylinder / brake booster); my cruise was broken and the problem for me was that cable.

These year trucks are cable driven speedometers. The cruise control vss is inline with the cable at the tailshaft of tranny or in xfercase if 4x4.
One thing could be is the switches in the steering wheel could be munged up and/or the slider contacts(clockspring) bad too.
Here's what took out my cruise control...
The ants got into the servo through that little vent hole. It worked most of the way home then quit on me! I checked the brake switch while gasing up the truck, but no luck till I got home and popped the hood to find that supprize !
The cruise control on my 98 wasn't working and I tried everything I read . Nothing worked . I was digging around in a wad of wires that the master cylinder tied into and there was a lot of tape . I unwound it and found a 2 amp inline fuse that was blown. I replaced it and the cruise works fine . Like I said I haven't read anything about this in my searches for no cruise control . I hope this helps somebody .
How long ago did you replace that fuse? The fuse was the dealer recall for the defective/leaking brake switch there on the master. If that fuse was blown, it could indicate the switch is going. This little thing has burnt many-a-truck to the ground (and a few houses with it).
