The threaded "block" is loose in the bracket, so i am assuming it is adjustable.

I would be very easy to make a plate the thickness of the removed bed, then the threaded plate, the existing bracket, with an additional plate with thru holes behind that, then a lock nut.

Thanks for the pictures! I think you're right.. it appears to be set up the way it is for fine tuning or adjustment of the latch plate. I would have to be super careful if I decided to have something fabricated. Maybe I should just try to get a set of the loose plates (with the threads) that you are showing in the picture. and then having a plate cut out with the larger holes welded in on the front...to try to make it as stock as possible. hmmm

Well, keep us posted. In the meantime i can look in some yards and see what i can see. I go every Saturday morning.

As far as "stock", um...you have a lot of work to do to that bed to make it stock, lol. I would say get the latches working as best they can, then worry about doing it right. Just my opinion.

Will do. And that would be greatly appreciated. The scrap yards around me have slim pickings. If you find something please let me know. Thanks!

Update:

Big thanks goes out to Ben (Benbuilder here on the forum) for cutting a hunk of steel out of a donor truck and sending it to me for a reasonable price. Using his donor pieces I was able to cut out some "patch panels" to weld in place of the cut out pieces. It was a little time intensive, but well worth it. A little cutoff wheel and grinder action, and a very shotty welding job and here is the finished prouct:

Looks like you did a fine job on it. Now all you have to fix is the rest of the bed. lol Seriously though, it looks good.

Haha ya really. Im just happy to have a tailgate on it now. The worst part of the whole bed is that gnarly dent in the drivers side rear corner that you can see in the pictures. the rest is just some surface rust and small dings...which is to be expected with a 37 year old workhorse.

and thanks...not too shabby for someone who has never welded or done any real metal work in their life haha
