Hi, new to the forum. I just bought a well worn but all original 1970 f-100. It has it's original 302. we have a Pull-a-part salvage yard nearby, which has a couple of 1978 f-100's. Would they have electronic ignition that I can transplant? I don't know what engines are in them. Would their rims fit as well? Mine has a mix of rims and i'd like to go back as nearly stock as I can. Thanks for any help I can get!
I think you posted in the wrong forum, there is one specifically for the 1967 to 1972 trucks.
BUT you should be able to get the duraspark ignition box and guts out of a distributor from a mid 70's Ford to replace your points. The duraspark box you will be able to find at your PnP yard. If you find a 302 you can even take the whole distributor. If you can not find a 302 distributor you should be able to grab the star wheel and sensor out of one and drop it right into yours.
Or you could go with the Pertronix III and flamethrower III coil.
I went a slightly different way on my 289. I picked up an HEI dizzy for it. Just drop it in and plug it into a 12v power source and you are ready to go.
My truck didn't have anything but the stock dizzy, and I got this one for less than the coil and other sundries.
Thanks all for your advise! Now i know what to look for and yep, I did post in the wrong forum! Ill use the right one next time and thanks for the quick response... now it's off to the salvage yard to pick parts.
