This weekend I'm finally changing out the original steering box for the rebuilt one I bought. A couple of questions.
Will I need any special type of puller for steering components attached to box?
One of the bolts is snapped off just inside the frame and I will need to of course get it out. EZ-outs? Any other suggestions?
You will need a pitman arm puller and a pickle fork to get things uncoupled from the bottom side. On top just separate by unbolting a couple of bolts. If the bolt that snapped off is on the frame rail then I am thinking it will be in the old steering box and shouldn't be a problem for you as you are replacing that one?

Thanks wasn't sure if I would need the puller and didn't want to get one if I didn't need it.
No such luck the bolt still being in the box. The box jumps away from the frame at the place the bolt broke off. The head of the bolt is gone the shank of the bolt broke off just inside the frame.
Most the auto parts stores like Auto zone & Oreille's loan out pullers and other special tools that are needed for doing all types jobs. Just got a leave a deposit of what the tool cost just in case you don't return it..

Did mine a while back ( power steering box, heavy sob) and used a piece of heavy housing copper wire to hang the box until I could get a bolt in it. Don't remember where I hooked wire up on the truck but I'am sure if you think about it you could figure a way to hang box till you get a bolt in it.
I'm not that stout but I hung mine on top and got on ground and was able to use my body and one hand to get one bolt started then it got easier. I replaced stock bolts with some new grade 8 hardware from my dad's bolt bin.
Okay I have everything disconnected and am ready to drop the box. Only thing in way way is the pinch bolt on the steering coupler it isn't a standard bolt head it's splined. 1/2" is too big to force on and I'm stuckon what go do.
Help! I have it in the garage and need this to drop it. Did I say help!

As I recal it is a 12 point headed bolt. Either use a boxed end wrench or a 12 point socket.
