I got mine at auto zone $135 + $50 core it was the cheapest I could find around me. I didn't want to use online order in case there was a problem or fitment issue. I can say hefting that bad boy back into that space was a challenge. Box went in good and steering is sooo much better.
What is the steps/procedures anyone has used to bleed the system? Judging by the hum I have some air bubbles.
Where and how much was the rebuilt steering box ? I just found out mine has a leaking seal . ford type Power steering box
If steering is ok I would just replace the seals, I heard where auto parts store can be a hit or miss. I got luck and got one from an f 250, put new seals and it works perfect. No leaks and very little play.

Turning wheel left & right lock to lock a few times is all it take in most all cases. But, I'd have the front wheel off the ground while doing it. Even though you have power steering your front end it's still under stress and forcing movement when the vehicle is not moving.

70 f-100 power steering. Few years ago put a new seal in my truck was good for a year. Put in new seal leaked within a week so I got one from the junk yard off an f 250. Put in new seals and for over a year now has been great, much tighter than my old box. Considered redhead but they would not get back in touch with me.
If you have the money I would consider redhead if you plan on keeping truck for a while. Ours boxes never came with a bottom bearing so over time they leak.
Just MO but I would do the seal first, cheap and not that hard to. If it goes out you can always buy another box.
If I remember right some boxes have 2 bottom seals, original on my f-100 did not. I believe the f 250 did.

[QUOTE=orich;14297252]Now you should have given your statement a little more thought.
Would your pump need to be working to circulate the fluid to get all the air out?
Or just by turning the wheel will push out the air with out engine running?
Yes start your engine.
My reason for asking is some of the posts I read stated engine off. Granted, it was not fte so they most likely didn't know of what they speak.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah this is what happens when some guys don't buy or read the manuals and pass on the wrong info.
Well hope it all works out for you Fluid Type F if you can find it. Less foaming and air. Ya should be running a fluid cooler of some sore..

Yeah you're right on the money on that one.
I took the factory cooler off because it was leaking. Any small aftermarket oil cooler should work?
So bled some air out for about 20 minutes.I still have the whine from 1,000 revs up. Took the cap off and bubbles still rising to the top. Is it possible it could take days to get the system totally are free?

Yeah the later 73's just wound a longer tubing in the front part of the lower
frame. I've seen where guys have used a tranny cooler off like bronco's or
80's trucks. Pretty easy to make one up tho.
