Yeah the later 73's just wound a longer tubing in the front part of the lower
frame. I've seen where guys have used a tranny cooler off like bronco's or
80's trucks. Pretty easy to make one up tho.

Sounds good and better yet low budget.
On bleeding out air has it taken you days to get the air out of the system? I've never seen the volume of bubbles in any vehicle I've owned that I have in this truck. Could it be because of lack of a cooler? Not real hot here yet
Any kinks or sharp bends can cause bubbles in a system.
Have you been driving it to aid in getting air out?
What brand of PS fluid or tranny fluid did you put in?
Is your pump the type that has a filter in it ?

I drove it to work and back today and plan on driving it this week.
PS fluid is the zone store brand. Is there a better option?
Don't know about a filter I'm pretty sure the pump is the factory unit.
Sharp bend is a maybe I noticed Saturday that the return line bends towards the gear box and slightly flattens out. Like if you bend rubber line a little too sharp. Maybe the culprit?
Bottom line is I gotta take a closer look. Right now at 2,000 revs + it sounds like it has a blower.
A return (suction) line going back to the pump that has a hose/metal connection not quite tight enough can cause bubbles. If it's tight enough to not leak externally but not quite sealed enough so the pump is sucking air. Do you have the means to put a vacuum pump and gauge on your system? Like where the cap and dipstick goes? If so put a vacuum on the system and see if it holds it.
2X on the jacking the front end up and turning the steering wheel back and forth (lock to lock) with the engine running.

Unfortunately don't have access to a vacuum pump. I'll check the hose clamp and crank it down some. I'm guilty in the past of over torquing so try to hold back, maybe held back too much.
I did the front end in the air lock to lock thing off and on for about 15 minutes at a shot shutting down the engine in between runs. First had her at idle and thought it was solved then ramped it up to 1,000 revs and hum was still there.
A new question to the same problem. When the hum/buzz is at it's worst I can feel a vibration in the steering wheel. Maybe it's the PS pulley bearing going out and not air? I know it's an opened ended question just throwing it out there if anyone else has had this.
What was the reason for changing out the s-box anyway was it
leaks or something?
Maybe your pump is bad if all the air is out and it's making a lot of noise.

Yeah box was loose, leaking like crazy and rag joint was just as bad. Sounds weird but I feel bad turning in a core with the original FOMOCO casting on it. I'll look at the return line and try to work backwards I know when it's said and done the solution will most likely be a simple one. I have noticed that as the engine gets hotter the sound becomes more intense/louder.
Jeff when did ford stop putting filters in the pump reservoirs??
orich
The ol' Eaton pumps with the bolt on the top reservoirs had 'em. through 1964. 1965-66 ish Ford came out with their own pump mounted in the reservoir style with a cap resembling an engine oil cap which did not have a filter. 1967 came with Ford's pump now with a push in dipstick/cap which we all know and love as the "Thompson" pump. No filter. 68 & 69 still no filter listed. But 70 to early 72 (before ser #p60'001) with pump tag # HBA-BX1 and HBA-BY1 ONLY shows filter D1AZ3C602A. So 70/72 some pumps had it and some did not. Then late 72 no filter again. And I do know starting in 1978 with the new style CII pump there was no filter.

I just caught this "flattens out" statement. I'll bet this is the problem. If the hose is crimped like that the flattened section will act like an oriface. Try puttin a hose clamp around the hose right at the flat spot. Tighten just enough to force the hose to be round again. And see if the noise gopes away.

I'll give that a shot. I saw it flattened out and thought it would be fine not even think of the difference in consistency of a hydraulic type oil. Sucks I got it running good then picked up this noise.
If nothing else I'm picking up a great learning experience.

Speaking of learning experience. Not trying to sound mean or anything, but One should always fix what they can see is wrong or know is broke 1st. When there's a problem a good visual can solve the problem sometimes. Even things One wouldn't think is related can actually be.

Didn't sound mean in any way. I'm on my trifecta marriage...it's hard to say anything that will hurt or offend me.
