Question 1979 Ford F150 Engine Swap

Hello everyone!

My name is Kevin, I am thinking about starting on a project to restore a 1979 Ford F150. One of the things that I want to do is do an engine swap to something different. The F150 has a straight 6 in it. I am also buying a 1979 F250 that has a 351 V8 in it. The F250 is mostly just for parts. Is it possible to do an engine swap from the F250 to the F150? Thanks guys!

(BTW: Im new here and also new to the truck scene)

~Kevin

Welcome to FTE, lots of good people here.
Yes, everything will swap over. You'll need to change the engine mount towers too, these are the metal brackets that bolt the motor mounts to the frame.
I'm sure you're going to get some comments about you should keep the 300. It's an excellent engine but it's also your truck. Do what you want.

Keep the 6. You'll regret swapping it the first time you go through a tank of gas.

When I switched my 300 out for a 302 in my 79 f150 I thought I had the right engine stands for it. They where out of a 78 f250 with a 400, too my surprise they where different. The holes would not line up to the frame holes. So I got ones off a 79 F150 and they worked fine. Just my experience with stands someone else's could be different

It is truly your truck but I would like a f150 with the straight six 4x4 manual with granny gear. But the only thing is if the truck is unmolested we all generally agree keep it original. BTW welcome

I should clarify myself. Being new to these trucks you probably don't know but two and four wheel drive have different frames and motor mounts and don't interchange.
Things will interchange as long as you're talking two wheel to two wheel or four wheel drive to four wheel.
two to four or four to two, things don't interchange so much.

Dang Mike beat me to it. That was the exact point I was going to make about the interchagability from 2wd to 4wd.
