I heard about this recall a year or so ago, and a few incidents here and there (mainly people with F150s, some were saved in time but others burned to the ground and were scrapped.) but it was never quite clear. Some people on other forums said it only affected the gas engines, but god knows how true that was and I don't want to risk it either. When I get my truck, that is another thing I will do. The last thing I would want is my truck burning to the ground over something as simple and preventable as this.

Thanks for the heads up though!

This recall came out in 2005, and it effects ALL of these trucks, f150-super duty, all engine types, the only ones that it doesn't effect are trucks that never had cruise to begin with.

The problem is the switch can start leaking and it's fed from the same 15A fuse that's used for the brake lights, so its always hot. When it leaks, it can light the brake fluid on fire and right above it is the hood insulation, you can see where this is going.

So Ford's fix is to put a intermediate harness between the switch and the factory wiring that fuses BOTH wires with 2A fuses, so now when the switch has an issue it doesn't have to try and blow a 15A fuse (which it can't) just a 2A.

Just some extra food for thought.

IIRC, this only affects 1990-something and up. Because my 1988 isn't affected, *does* have cruise, and does *not* have this switch. (also, I checked my vin against Ford's system).
My 1988 uses a vacuum-dump switch, and (possibly) the brake-light switch to the same effect.

If you have an electrical sensor on the end of the brake master cyl bore, your truck originally had the faulty switch. if you only have an electric plug under the reservoir, your truck did not come with the faulty switch. My 1993 F350 diesel also had the faulty switch when new. They switched to this speed control system in either 92 or 93, im not sure which.
