2002 f150 cruse control problem
yes ik there are going to be many posts about this already, but i have a few questions.
i have an 02 f150 5.4 and since i got it it hasnt had cruse control. I went to a local ford dealership and they ran the vin and didnt find any recall on it. Under the hood on the master cylinder there is brake fluid coming out of the brake control switch. would just replacing that pice fix my problem? or would i have to do something with the harness too? let me know what you guys think

You have a fire waiting to burn the truck down.
Remove the connector now.
Go back to the dealer and show it to them.
There is a recall on all trucks for the same fault some years back.
It must have the factory change applied to ever be safe to use.
The recall involves putting a low value fuse and holder/harness in line to the switch.
The switch must be replaced.
Use a Ford part, not one from an after market source.
The switch is a special low operating pressure design that has to also handle the high system pressure of applied braking.
Once he internal diaphragm ruptures fluid gets by, stops he contact operation and leaks to the outside world.
Then becomes a fire hazard at all times because it has power on at all times. Brake fluid can become conductive.
Good luck.

I hate to disagree but your dealer is Wrong!
It is a factory recall over many years and models that uses the same part and system..
To be acceptable for dealer work the recall must be done with factory harness if there is any CC faults and should the truck burn they will ask why it was not taken care of.
Basically a 4 amp fuse was put in line so it would blow instead of possibly starting a fire due to a large value fuse the circuit uses..
Better go to another dealer and check this out again.
or do it yourself to be safe.
I've told you everything about it and why so you make the decision.
The leaking switch is the basis for everything. The evidence is there to see.
Good luck.

That tag appears to tell us the recall was already done so may be the reason it is cleared out of the dealer data base. You did not make mention of this in your first posts.
You may have one or both these faults.
A. The fuse link is blown and or the pressure switch contacts are open beside the fluid leak.
What to do:
Test end of harness for 12 volts to ground.
If ok the link is good.
B. Use Ohm meter to test continuity across the pressure switch contacts.
If no, the CC will not work besides the fluid leak.
Replace the pressure switch in any event.
If after this is secured and CC still does not work, do system test from the steering wheel switches and note the Cruise lamp flash code after the last switch is operated.
Test is a specific key sequence procedure.
See if you can find it on this board by doing a search or on GOOGLE search.
Good luck.

I had the exact same issue on my 96' F-150 and this is the little kit I bought and fixed everything up nicely.

Don't buy the recall kit, get the service kit number 9F924 as your tag states. Your harness will no longer be fused, but it won't need to be. The fused harness was just a bandaid for the actual switch that starts leaking brake fluid. This is the what comes up on advance when you search for the service kit.

i think i remember reading that if your pressure switch is has red on it that it is the factory one and it needs replaced is that true? i think what im going to do is buy a new wire and pressure switch and just replace them both so ik its fixed. and ya i didn't mention anything about it because it just dawned on me that it could mean something.
