Hello, I am in the middle of doing a steering flush on my 2002 F350 and im not sure if this is normal but wen I turn the wheel back and forth,
I am seeing hardly any fluid flowing through ay all.
I found a link on doing the flush and am following it to tee, Even using the clear tubing, Wen I hit the brake and release it there is a big blurp of fluid through the tube, But turning the wheel just makes a dribble.
Also the truck is very tight, or hard to steer while driving, the brakes work fantastic.
As for the hard steering, Even though the front end is off the ground the steering is still harder than it should be.
You can tell a big difference wen the truck is running but it still seams harder than it should.
Do you guys think the gear box could be the problem?
This was a reman. gear box from napa.
You're pulling the old fluid from the return line from the brake booster. The return line for steering is a separate line.
Typically the brakes will feel really spongy like you have air in the system when the fluid is wore out. They'll still work, they just feel weird. For me hard steering came after putting off the fluid change after the symptoms with the brakes. Hard steering could also be air in the system. Just got to work it out and then make sure the fluid is topped off.
Thank you Greg, That gives me a lot of help, The steering box on the truck only has about 3,000 miles on it, I even disconnected the tie rod from the pitman arm and it still does not steer as free as it should.
The next free day I get I will look into bleeding the system unless it clears itself up in the meantime.
