2008 F350 XL Power Steering Pump burst

I was driving my truck to get supplies from a local auction and as I was turning on a green light for me, a car came down like a bullet running a red light and so I had to quickly apply the brakes to prevent me from hitting him, he himself stopped but I motioned for him to go, as I went to press on the accelerator the truck wouldent move and when I looked down all of these brownish orange liquid starting running down from the pedals, so I attempted to pull over but I noticed that my power steering was gone along with my brakes so I painstakinly turned the truck around and drove back home and proceeded to inspect the truck. At first glance I thought the brownish fluid was brake fluid but apoun inspecting the engine, the fluid was full and when I checked the power steering fluid it was drained. So my question is, can applying the brakes a little rough cause the power steering pump to rupture????

Not an expert by any means but what i do know is the power steering and brakes are on whats called a hydroboost system (i think thats what its called) Anyway the brake system uses the powersteering fluid, Youtube has a clip on how to flush the power steering fluid out and it uses pumping the brake pedal slowly. There is a return line up on the mastercylinder area that goes back to the power steering tank. Now guessing here when i flushed mine the squeeze clamp didnt make a really strong clamp, i guess since its a return line. Check that, and see if it came off, its possible and if it did its a simple fix of putting it back on and clamping it, hopefully you didnt do any damage. I cannot recall exactly on youtube where i seen the video but look up 2008 F350 6.4 power steering flush procedure, I think the 6.0s are very similar on this. I will keep my fingers crossed that this is all that has happend... OH one additional thing, DONT USE POWER STEERING FLUID to replace your lost fluid. Being a newbie myself glad i asked before i flushed mine, it takes LV syn ford trans fluid. Valvoline makes it also.

here is the link I used. yes its a 6.0 but mine was exactly the same.

Hope this helps
