clutch fan

Im not sure if my fan clutch has the snow plow package, but if I buy a snow plow package fan clutch, will it fit even though it may not have one from the factory?

Yes it will fit. There is virtually no difference in the external appearance of the part itself between the two, other than the part number. The only difference that I recall, from installing one years back, is the plow package version commands more frequent operation, due I guess to a plow being installed, which obstructs air flow through all the heat exchangers.

My fan w/ plow package seems to lock in easier than our other '07 with the standard clutch. Either idling in traffic, using stationary high idle, and during just regular idle the FSS/ fan clutch PID seems to kick up more frequently.

On the highway I've never noticed a difference. But I've never live data stream tracked this, so it's still mostly just my casual observations and not hard fact.

The HD clutch fan can cause the engine to run hotter at highway speeds.

Plus the fact it runs more which causes a drop in MPG.

Without a plow blocking air flow it's useless on a normal engine.

That's some good info Josh. Thanks, gives the reason not to upgrade.

If it starts overheating, switch them out. If not, leave it.

TSB 07-11-5 DIESEL ENGINE - OVERHEATING WITH A SNOW PLOW INSTALLED ON VEHICLES WITHOUT THE FACTORY INSTALLED SNOW PLOW PACKAGE

FORD: 2003-2008 F-Super Duty
This article supersedes TSB 07-8-4 to update the vehicle model years and engines.

ISSUE:
Some 2003-2008 F-Super Duty vehicles with a diesel engine, that are not equipped with the factory snow plow package, may exhibit an engine overheat condition if a snow plow is installed on the vehicle. The condition typically will occur during normal highway driving. This is due to the snow plow blade disrupting airflow to the engine, causing the cooling fan to stop turning or to spin in reverse.

ACTION:
A new clutch fan (only for snow plow applications) may be installed to correct the condition. Cost of the new clutch fan and its installation is the responsibility of the customer. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 303-03 for removal and installation.

PART NUMBER - PART NAME
