Quick question for those who know. I am doing the head gaskets on my 94 and I was hoping the tubes would be in the gasket set, but no luck. Where can I get them, or what can I use? 2 got crushed. They look like a 1/2" tube about 3/4" long, two per head. Is this a ford part or go to an engine shop or use copper tube???
I think you're referring to the alignment dowels, those hold the head in the proper location during installation.
Ford part number is E3TZ-6A008-A Dowel cylinder head. Might still be on the shelf at your local dealer.
Thanks a lot, Ford dealer had them. Now I can make some progress...I hope.
The parts guy asked why I was looking for the SCAs, to add to the coolant. he said if its not in there now the engines probably screwed, figuring cavitation. I said I really hope not, bought this truck not running, replacing the heads as per the previous owner, that's why I'm looking for the dowels.
Now I'm all worried the block is screwed...wish me luck.
Thanks again.
Oh he said use the new Ford Antifreeze, and not the SCA's
Depends on the antifreeze, like fleetgaurd for instance doesnt need SCAs has elc or something. If its not cavitated, and you maintain SCAs, it wont cavitate.
I believe SCA stands for supplemental coolant additive
Yep.
Fleet Charge Fully Formulated Antifreeze is designed to provide superior engine protection for heavy-duty cooling systems. For years, heavy-duty operators were limited to using low silicate automotive antifreeze that require the addition of a separate supplemental coolant additive (SCA) at initial fill and top off. While this was effective, it resulted in mixing errors when the SCA was added. To prevent SCA variability caused by mixing errors, and improve convenience, Old World Industries developed Fleet Charge Antifreeze.Fleet Charge is a fully formulated universal formula antifreeze, having the advantages of low total dissolved solids, low silicate and incorporates nitrite to provide superior wet sleeve liner cavitation protection. Since Fleet Charge is precharged with a high quality SCA, there is no need to add additional SCA's at initial fill or when topping off to compensate for SCA dilution.
I got the tubes, dowels from the ford dealer, and cleaned both block and head surfaces in preparation for by Brother-in-law to come over to lend a hand passing the heads to me.....he never showed,,,,so hopefully tonight.
I was looking at the Banks Down pipe I bought, and it has a bung welded to it. can I use that for an EGT sensor or should I drill and tap a hole in the exhaust manifold? If I have to drill, where is the best location?
I hope I can post some pictures of the Big Pink Beast on this site fairly soon, I know its nice to link a truck to a poster. Not normally one who names their vehicle, but my Much Better Half likes to bug me about my pink truck.
