hey guys well i eather blew a head gasket or cracked a head .I have C8VE-A. in case they are cracked can i use heads casting #DSVE-A2A or DOVE-C akso what head would be better.I had 400 miles on rebuilt 429 thunderjet and im blowin steam out the exaust doh.
D0VE-C heads are the closest replacement heads. D3VE-A2A's have a 92 cc chamber vise the smaller 76 cc chambers of the C8VE and D0VE. My next question is how much steam are you blowing out and for how long? Depending on the area you live in it may be from condensation that forms in the exhaust system afterwards and goes away after a while. The most likely culprit will be a head gasket issue. But again this also depends on what machine work you had done to the engine before you assembled your engine. Were the heads and block resurfaced? Did you have the heads ported? Were both the heads and block checked for cracks? These all play into the out come of how your engine is leaking coolant.
block was baked and blasted at machine shop. Heads were checked so i was told, not sure now but as soon as i gettem off il have em checked.motor was built in my gayrage, i put new pistons30 over9.5:1 . all new bearings rod-main crank was checked its stock clean 4U stamp.Torqe was done right on heads .I live in michagin.I was told motor had 6000 miles on it but i blew it up in 2 days.I found in my rebuild that block wasnt done right and before i sent block to machine shop i pulled 2cups of carbon and chunks of rust out of water jackets.than i had block cleaned right lol.Thx Rick
Slick, one way to get some of the 'stuff' out of those Water jacket hiding places is to force water through the passages, and simultaneously add in some air from your air compressor.
Fix a long tube on your blow gun and squirt the air right in with the water.
You'll hear some loud cracking sounds, and see some evil looking stuff come out with the outflow water.
I got a big pocket of casting sand out of one of my Six bangers that way.
I've also used Easy Off oven cleaner to remove some of the nasty stuff stuck inside the block. That was before machine work was done though. The stuff loves to pull carbon and other gunk off. Beware of aluminum parts though, it will start to eat it after a 30 minute period. Not to the point that it will fall apart but it will etch it if you have polished parts. Also I advise wearing rubber dish gloves. This stuff is designed to disolve carbon and since all of us are made of it it will make your skin feel slimmy after a little exposure.
