How do you tell what transmission you have I've trying a vin decoder i found out i have 3.08 gears. maybe one of you will know even. 95 f-150 5.8L eddie bauer 4x4. Also what is better when it comes to the auto trani E40D or C6? and why?
Thank you guys I must have the E40D and I think I know what the locking torque converter dose but...... What dose that and why is it a benefit? Also I have 3.08 gears not sure how I feel about that yet
Locking torque converter reduces engine rpm at cruise speeds which increases gas milage and it also reduces transmission oil temperatures. With the E4OD this is controlled by the powertrain control module or computer.
3.08 gears are pretty sucky, the good news is you would have no problem finding a truck with 3.55 gears in a scrapyard and swapping in the whole rear axle is a pretty easy job.

He'd need to do both the front and back, correct? He did say it is a 4x4
Yes front and back gears have to match in a 4x4, and on these trucks only the center pumpkin in the front axle would have to change not the whole axle.
