As it it getting harder to find old quad cabs I found a 1984 350 dually. I wont be towing enough to need it so is it feasible to replace rear axle to eliminate the extra tires? ( then obviously replace the bed) you guys know these remarkable machines like no one else. I thank you in advance for your help.
Is the truck a pickup dually, or a cab and chassis truck? The C&C axle is not much narrower than a srw one so you could probably get away with just changing wheels on the rear. If it is a pickup dually, you will need a narrower axle for sure. For the front its just a matter of changing out the hubs to srw ones, that's the rotors on a 2wd, on a 4wd if its a cab and chassis you will need some srw hubs, a pickup dually will probably have adaptors.

Well I do apologize, I'm a laymen somewhat, it is a true dually with 4 rear tires if thats what your referring too. I wouldn't have thought you'd have to do anything to the front, as the swapping would be the rear axle and maybe gears? but again I'm inexperienced. Thank you for your help
IF you have a pickup bed on it, we can assume it's a pickup and has the wider axle. If you have some sort of flat bed on it, then it could be a chassis cab. You need to know this before you start. I think the first 8 or so digits in the VIN would tell us what it is.
You have the same rims on the front as you do on the rear correct? See how deep the dish is? They turn them around and put them on the front, so they make the front hub assembly very thick to accomodate the very deep dish. If you are going to convert the rear to conventional rims, you need to convert the front also correct?
the truck is a 1984 2tone, that I have not purchased, I was going to see what was involved in swapping axles. I assume it is the factory bed that matches cab. I understand just changing rims, but no further altering of front axle or anything right? Thanks again.
You WILL have to alter the front hubs. Your best bet is to buy this truck, and then buy another single rear wheel donor for the rear axle and the front hub parts and rims. That would also give you a bed to swap.
Great idea, thank you for all your help, now if you dont mind, what exactly needs to be swapped on the front? I'm not totally in the dark, I've replaced the lockout hubs on a 76 and a variety of things being an old machine and all. I will need to match both the ring and pinion gears in back from donor truck to keeper truck right?
