Bottom half standpipe stayed in

I'm changing standpipes and plugs. When I tried to take drivers side out, the bottom half stayed in! Is this normal for factory pipes? If so, how do I get the rest out? The videos I can find show it all coming out at once. I gotta get this thing running by Monday AM.

Thanks for the help,
Dave

I believe you will have to remove the oil rail to get the low part out.

Try wrapping the bottom of the upper piece with some electrical tape and reinstall it the take it back out and see if the lower piece comes out with it

Or just replace the upper part and leave the bottom.

The new one doesn't seem to come apart. I think the bottom o'ring is leaking on the passenger side. When pressure testing the gurgling sounded down low. How big a can of worms will I open if I try to pull the oil rail off? Will I need more parts? The e tape didn't work. I'm gonna try finding a wood dowel and taper the end and see if that works. Some C-4 is starting to sound good!

While it's possible that particular o-ring is leaking, in the grande scheme of areas that leak, that is the least likely.

Dummy Plugs
STC
Oil Rail Nipple o-rings
Upper Standpipe
Oil Rail test port plug

But, the easiest is to remove the oil rail and pull it out with pliers. Since you're diehard on replacing it just jam a screwdriver into it and pull up.

Just looked closer and had a sick thought. The o ring that seals the bottom of the rail is still in - only one came out. Does that mean I have a spring and check valve floating around in the rail or didn't the original one have it. I'm really getting tired of this thing. It has been one thing after another since I got it two years ago. What a PITA to work on. Give me a '60s carb gasser and 4 speed any day!

You cannot access the check valve.

All that came out was the threads and about 1 1/4" below - the part with the holes. The bottom 2 o rings stayed in. I can spin it with the screwdriver but cant get it to grab enough to pull it. Was gonna try an easy out but the ones I have are too short.

Try a pair of needle nose or snap ring pliers that expand out ward.
