I am changing the head unit in my '99 7.3L 350 dually, I am going with a Pioneer AVIC-F950DAB, through this wonderful forum I have found out what I need to modify to make it fit, thanks guys, only thing I'm not sure on is that the unit needs a speed pulse input for the navigation to work. I have some wiring schematics but I'm not sure where the pulse should be taken from. I'm thinking it should tap into the grey/black wire between the ABS module & the VSS input on the PCM.
Or should the signal come from the speed sensor on the rear diff?
I say that because I has a really bad time with there support line.
Tat and also the 3+ year old map data. They wanted me to pay to
get the update when I just had purchased it from one of there dealers
and the maps were out of date.
See if you can find something that fits so you don't have to hack it up
to get it to fit and work right.
I take it you need to fit a double DIN in a single DIN dash?
I'm fine with Pioneer, had one in my last truck although I did begrudge paying for the map updates. The original head unit is not quite double din size but I have found adaptors which work with a little bit of modification to the dash. I think I have everything covered apart from getting a speed pulse.
I know on my 06 that the VSS wire is in the harness plug
that goes to the stereo. I don't have the older wiring diagrams.
I could post the 03/04 or the 06/07 if you need me to.
Thanks,I have the wiring diagram for my truck which shows the cruise control circuit as having a grey/black wire from the vss to the pcm, the truck does not have a vss wire into the stereo or it would have made life so much easier.
