Ok I know the big hole is a cab mount. I am replacing rear cab corners. I dont remember what that lower little hole on the left is for or if I need to punch it out in the replacement piece. Can anyone help?
It is a drain hole that usually gets plugged with crap and causes the corners to rot out. I plan on having it on mine but will be putting in a rubber deflector to keep crap from going out to in.
It was one of the better ones Ive came across but still needed all four cab corners and the tips of the door posts. This truck will never see snow, gravel or dirt roads in my life time, wondering about not punching those holes back out. I figured it was probably a drain hole but questioned being that high. By the time it drains, all the sediment has settled below it. I guess thats why they rusted out so bad. Once you get the cab corners cleaned out, an air compressor with a long tip is your best friend.
I stuck my foot in my mouth...again. I seem to be no virgin to that. A closer look at the hole shows its only 1/8" above the pinch weld. So, it is about as low as it can go to drain (if its kept open). I still think keeping water out of the inside of the cab and cleaning the corners regularly is a good approach. Or like you said, install the plugs and remove them for cleaning. Who would have ever thought an old farm truck would become such a classic?
