Check engine light

I ordered a 2014 F350 on Nov 29, 2013, finally received it 4 months later on Saturday Mar 29, 2014. Have had nothing but problems since. The check engine light came on when doing initial check out with sales person. Service guy reset light while we completed paper work. Check engine light came back on sometime over the weekend. Took back to dealer Monday morning, as I had to drop off title for my 2008 F350 trade in. They gave me a Lincoln MKZ as a loner. Service department had truck all day and said that problem was a loose connector and they reset codes, I asked what were the codes? Service manager said the tech was already gone and he would find out and get back to me the next day. I didn't even get across town before I noticed the light back on. By the time I got back, of course the service dept was closed. They gave me the Lincoln loaner back and as you can understand, I am not a very happy owner at this point. Next day I found out that the service tech that takes care of diesels is on vacation and that the one that worked on mine is clueless about how to proceed. So far the dealer has had the truck longer than I have, although they have been nothing but helpfull. They are taking it to another dealer today, to see if that dealer can fix problem. Unfortunately I want to go to Virginia early next week, for our first camping trip. Now should I trust the truck or not, that's provided that problem is taken car of. HELP!

I'm sorry you are having trouble with your truck and I hope that they get your issues resolved. It sounds promising if they are taking care of you and taking the truck to anther dealer for assistance. I can tell you the truck is worth the wait. Good luck!

if it was me i would still go obviously its not a big deal if they just reset the code and sent you on your way I've had several codes with my 2012 f350 but nothing serious. i also have an edge insight on the dash so i can read the codes and then clear them myself if its something dumb an example would be fuel cap not tightened all the way or once my oil temp was to far apart from my coolant temp (plugged in, in winter). with saying that these types of things can be very frustrating especially when this is a brand new vehicle my wife went threw something like this she had two repairs on her 2013 fusion in her first week of ownership when it was damaged during transport

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately the engine power is reduced when this occurs and would not like it to occur while in the mountains of West Virginia or Virginia while pulling my camper. That's really what concerns me right now. I will post an update when I hear from dealer.

Congrats on the new truck and welcome to FTE!

Sorry you're having troubles right out the gate. Hopefully your dealer gets you going soon. Let us know what they find out.

Yeah, if you are getting a power reduction when the code pops up then best bet is to leave it at the dealer or take it to another dealer yourself, which is probably the fastest way to get it looked at.

And put ford customer service on it so they can light a fire under the service manager.

Follow up on check engine light

Good news, it appears that the second dealer was able to find and fix. It seems that the connector at the DEF pump was not connected and it only took him a short amount of time to find and plug in. I took the long way home from the dealers and so far no problems, maybe my trip is back on after all.
