I know yall've helped with this many many times, so sorry for the repost. Can anyone point me towards the part? I live in the Austin Texas area. My pickup is a 72f100, no power steering, and the wheel doesn't tilt.
Called the Autozone and Orilleys and no luck. Here's a pic of mine. Looks like crap... The wheel isn't aligned perfect and theres alot of play in the steering...
Any Autozone will have it in the HELP section. Likely most on the phone won't have a clue is you ask. I even checked their website and they don't list it.
It's over where they keep door pin replacment and exhaust bolts. Red colored packages marked "Dorman" or "Help".
Typically when the cab mounts sag, it will work really hard on that rubber joint. They will tear and disconnect over time(not good as you loose steering).
Thank you. I called them and they didn't have a clue. I couldn't find it on their website either. I'm going to drive over there on my lunch break to see if I can find it.
There are a couple different sizes to choose from but it is called a Steering Coupling Disc Kit Dorman Help part # 31000. I got one from Pepboys but they should all carry them.
They had the part. I'm going to clean the area really good so I can see a little better. I'm just hoping that's all I'm going to need. I'll keep ya posted.
Should just take a couple wrenches to get it apart. There should be a thin metal plate in there that is the ground strap to the column(for the horn to work). Likely it is broken if you don't have a horn presently.
Whatever fluid leaked all over that area and the old rag joint should be fiXed soon. I can't tell if it's from the steering gear box or the M/C above it. Whichever fluid(s) it was that's what ruined the rubber in your old one. It will eventually do the same thing to the new rubber.

My pickup is a 72 F100, no power steering, and the wheel doesn't tilt. 1969/74: Power or manual steering makes no difference. No tilt wheel was available until 1978.

Rag Joint = FoMoCo terminology: Steering Coupler Assy. The rubber portion of the coupler assy can be replaced, it's available from auto parts stores. But it can be a real b!tch to install!

The complete steering coupler assy and the rubber portion are available from Dorman Products, sold by auto parts stores.

THX, The horn works so hopefully that part is still intact.

I think the mastercylinder used to leak? Check out this pic... I don't think it's leaking anymore.
