random battery light on dash

Well my 02 f250 6.8 will randomly throw the battery light on in the cluster. Battery is new alternator looks new but I am not sure as I have only had the truck a month or two. Was finally able to get it to stay on long enough when the truck was idling to see out put. 14.4 volts at the alternator and battery. Yet light was on. I wish they put real gages in these things. Anyways has any one experienced this too. Should I r et place the alternator? Hate to drop 200 dollars for no reason. Thanks in advance for any info.

Sears or Autozone can hook up to the battery with the engine going and tell you right quick if it's the alternator. They say that Autozone has a "lifetime" warranty on their rebuilt alternators and I know of folks that have taken back 2 or 3 and no charge. The question is do you want the hassle of them going bad and having to take them back. For alternators and starters, I have used these guys before and they have the best IMHO; Starters, Alternators and more for Cars, Trucks, Tractors and ATVs
