I'm looking for a 8x6.5 wheel in 16" and 6.5 " wide to fit my 1977 f250 4x4. Does anyone have a source for these? My tires recommend a 6.5" width.
You can go with 6" or 7", you don't have to be exact,,, I have run 235/85/16's on 16x10's and my 02 Dually when I bought it had 315/75/16's on factory 16x6 rims...and it now has 285/75/16's on them.
All manufacturers will state a "recommended" or "approved" range of rim sizes for each given tire size. For example, Toyo says that their Open Country A/T tire in a LT235/85R16 can be run on rims ranging from 6" to 7.5"...with 6.5" being the "measured" rim size...the one they base all of their specs and dimensions on. The industry rule of thumb is that for every 1/2" change in rim width, the tire's section width will correspondingly change by approximately 2/10".
So, you have wiggle room...no problem running slightly smaller or slightly larger rims/wheels. Thankfully, Ford made millions of 16x7 rims for these trucks...and 16x6, too, I believe. Shouldn't be any problem finding a set. As a matter of fact, your truck is probably riding on a set right now...no?

No. It's riding on a set of slotted aluminum rims. None of my trucks came with factory rims. My new tires will be for winter, so a set of factory steel rims in black will look nice. Thanks for your help everyone.
It should be fairly easy to find factory Ford rims...8 on 6.5...16" diameter and 7" wide. So many trucks came with these right up until the late '90s...they're littering the junk yards! They still put them on the 1 ton E-series vans, I believe!
I found a brand new, factory set, black, for $35/rim...which I thought was pretty good for new rims! Otherwise, find a set in a junk yard or someone's back yard...clean 'em up and paint them black. Look for the "Accuride" name stamped in the rim...tells you that they're factory steel rims.

They still put them on the 3/4 ton (E250) & 1 ton E350 vans aka Econolines.
If you look in Ford truck parts catalogs, you will not find any steel wheels that are 7" wide.
This is because Ford measures wheels across from the inside flanges, not across from the outer lips.
F250/350's went to metric wheels in 1999, but no Econoline of any year has metric wheels.
Thanks for the clarification on the E-series vehicles, NumberDummy!
Although Ford may not catalogue them as such, I know that Accuride (who made the wheels) puts a stamp on the rim showing "16x7K" just beside the Accuride logo stamp.
Fumagalli, who I believe is the recent (current?) maker of Ford steel rims does the same.
