My 1989 5.0 runs hot without air condtioning on and over heats with air on.I put in a new four row radiator,flushed the engine block,changed all hoses and the thermostat.It has a seven bladed fan with clutch and it is working ok.I'm stumped,does anyone have any suggestions.
check for blockage in the A/C condensor in front of the radiator. It may be functioning properly for the A/C, but not allowing enough air through to the radiator. Also from reading some of the posts, the water pump impellor fins have a tendency to erode over time, consequently reducing coolant flow through the engine.
How hot is too hot? Is it boiling? Is the shroud in place? Have you checked the cap?
Have you checked your other post? I didn't know the radiator was new and a 4-core. It helps to keep everything posted together to keep all pertinent data in one place. Makes it easier to figure things out.
I'll agree with Yelrisheam, if everything else is up to snuff, the water pump could be the culprit.
Also, the transmission is cooled through the radiator. So, if that's overheating...
