My fuel door took a dump last week and won't stay closed now. Has anyone else had this issue? The truck is out of warranty, so I'll have to try to fix it myself, but I don't really know how to get to the broken part. Looking at it from underneath, it appears to have some kind of a spring set up, but I'm not sure how to remove it and then if I have to replace the whole housing, how does the actual door detach? It sure would be nice to have a shop manual for things like this, at least I could see a detail picture that would probably help a lot.
That's pretty cool that you are hooked up there as well. I did a search at FTE, but didn't really come up with anything. This pretty well lays it out, sort of like I expected. Sometimes it is better to ask if you aren't sure. Late model vehicles are much more susceptible to lateral damage, if you make a wrong move. I'm sure glad Ford saved a few cents by using this crappy set up ;(
I had the same failure... went through the process to remove the neck, reseat the spring, and added a cotter pin to prevent further back-out. Haven't had a problem since.
