So I have looked this topic up and found tons of info on it. But switching to LED reverse lights? Is it as simple as buying an LED bulb to put in? If so does anyone have a part number for it? Some people say you need an extra wire to put in when switching to LEDs?
2nd part: If there is an LED you can just plug in and work fine can you do it all around (i.e all the other lights)?
There are LED equivalents to a lot, if not most, standard auto bulbs. So there are often times you can just plug them in directly. Backup lights should be a piece of cake. Maybe even running lights. But be very careful with headlights because if they don't project light the same way as the incandescent/halogen equivalent, you could very well be breaking the law.
I swapped all my internal/external accessory lights, reverse lights, and license plate lights to LED. I left my HID headlights alone, as well as the stock side markers/blinkers/brakes/fogs. There is a kit on Amazon for about $30 that comes with all the bulbs you need for what I did above.
Blinkers are tricky because of how the relay works, so that one requires some extended work.
Also, if you have the puddle lights (lights in the side mirrors), they require cutting & reassembly to do the swap. I did it (carefully) with a Dremel and adhesive silicone. Not a terrible job by any means. Took me maybe 90 mins for the whole thing.
I think am going to go with the new LPF 3500LM backup license plate frame from V-LED. They improved their design from their previous model and it looks a LOT better. I personally don't want external back-up lights visible if I don't have to go that route and I think these will do what I need. The only thing that I don't think they come with is, is a inline switch for tuning them on when you are not in reverse. (which honestly has kept me from buying them already) If that doesn't matter to you then they have two bulb temp options one is 5K and the other is 6K(which is usually back ordered...lol) They also have two designs for the frame. It splices into your reverse wire on your 7 pin wiring harness.
