So, I'm looking at Ididit columns and they have 2 for 1972. One is 33" and the other is 31".
My stocker is a 2wd and is 33"...I'm wondering if the 31" is for a 4wd as I'm guessing the column would not protrude as far into the engine bay as a 2wd.
Anyone know which length column went in which truck? or why I should use one length from the other?
If I was home I could measure my factory 4x4 column. After rebuilding it with all new parts and paint. I to will be going with another column choice. I believe member highntight is running one in his truck.
Me personally I'm going with a 78/79 Dent tilt/cruise column. Which I've already bought off Ebay. Once my Bump shift collar flange cracks and/or breaks it's goin' in. That's about when I'll need a new steering coupler anyways and it will adapt the Dent column to my bump. There's info on the "other" sight as how to wire the Dent T/S switch to a Bump. And me personally, I've always really liked Ford's Gullwing steering wheel that's on those columns. I don't know how much those Ididit colums are, but I bet way more than I want to spend. I think I paid $100.00 for my Dent column.
I've priced around for the 78-79 tilt steering column for a 4 speed since it should mate up to my 79 f250 4x4 power steering box. looks like they are all in the 100 and up range. A guy local wants 150 for one with a cracked column surround. Probably needs rebuilt to. guess it comes down to if I find a deal on one or not. If not I'll just get a (blingy) column.
