CRATE MOTORS

I'm looking to put a 302 crate motor into my truck. Any advice or info concerning who to buy from? I plan on buying a turn key and was looking at phoenix engines.com. They have one for $3495.00 with free shipping and 12 month warranty.
Anything I should be on the look out for? I realize that I need to buy a few more parts and that I can upgrade. Just looking to see if there is someone out there that has do this or knows a good company.

Thanks

Jim

For that much money, it makes more sense to get a crate 302 from Ford Racing. Other alternatives in CA include Smeding Performance (Sacramento) and Coast High Performance outta Lala-land....others too but those two are off the top of my head.

true but for that amount less he might possibly consider since he probably can get his hands on the intake and other stuff for a lot less than the remaining $2000

Distributor, exhaust, carburetor, brackets and pulleys... it adds up. And I'm going to assume he wants a turn key because he doesn't feel like dealing with all of that.

Rebuilt Engine Store (Spokane, WA) offers 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. They may or may not have the 302 you're looking for, but I'd at least search on their web site. A quick search looks like they've got a few, possibly as low as $1,080. I probably didn't enter the correct specs for what you're looking for, 'cuz I guessed about some of it.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for a turn key motor. I want a 302 but nothing too extreme as I'm using it for a daily driver only hauling a motorcycle and some dogs. I wasn't sure if that was a decent price for a turn key and was wondering if anyone had some experience with other companies. I have a 300 straight now mated to a C4. I plan on selling both and getting a crate 302 with a AOD, which I already have. I'm not much of a motor man and not sure on what type of quality parts these companies put in crate motors?

Thanks

Btw, Blueprint Engines in the Summit catalog also offers fully dressed engines.

Why not a 351W. Same mounts and all as a 302. But more torque and power
with the same or better mileage. Plus get a roller block. So many more pluses
to a roller motor to even list. And even better mileage with the 4 speed auto trans.

Personal preference. I've had 302's years ago and really like the motor. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm not towing or even carrying a big load. Gas mileage is nice, but we are talking old trucks here!

When I had my shop I used Jasper, and had real good luck with them.

X2 on the Jasper as it's all I used when I had my three shops up and running.
Only exception was the ones we did in house. Even back then (1980's) it was hard to
build one of quality as good or better than Jasper. I am even now trying to get the
funds to Jasper "The Bronk" with a roller long block from them. Great quality as
well as follow up service. Out of maybe 1k of engines from them I only got one
bad 300 I6. And that was a factory flaw. They shipped another free shipping
with no questions and let me keep the bad one. And it was an easy fix with a
water pump spacer so as to keep the impeller from hitting the #1 jug.
I have not dealt with them since the mid '90's so don't know about how they are
today. But I still hear great things.
